CENTRAL EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY - Department of Gender Studies

Gender Studies at CEU draws inspiration from its location in Budapest, a historical crossroads of cultural, social, and political influences - what Mary Louise Pratt has termed a "contact zone." Our international faculty and student body ensures diverse perspectives on gender theories and practices, which are necessarily examined comparatively (over time and space) and in relation to transnational processes. Our interdisciplinary courses and research stress the intersection of gender with other social categories, and the power relations that result from these intersections. These intellectual commitments, led by faculty conducting important and innovative research in the field, position CEU Gender Studies at the center of new modes of gender knowledge, critique and social change.
